Koforidua, Aug. 15, GNA – Mr Alex Asamoah, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has expressed worry about the resurgence of criminal activities in the municipality.
He said the resurgence of criminal activities at “Pentoawala” area and the destruction of some village housing units at Sampoa-meinsa left much to be desired.
Mr Asamoah, addressing the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Assembly in Koforidua on at the weekend, said development could only take place in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
He commended the security agents-especially the Bureau of National Investigations for their advice and guidance that had enabled the Municipal Security Council to contain the situation.
He said the assembly, ably supported by Metro Mass Transport, was arranging with the police administration to set up a police post at Pentoawala to enable the people, especially those at the central business area, to go about their legitimate duties without fear of intimidation from criminals.
Touching on the school feeding programme, Mr Asamoah disclosed that the programme in the municipality was progressively expanding and as at July this year, enrolment figures in beneficiary Schools stood at 6,970 in a cluster of six schools.
He said the assembly, in conjunction with the Municipal Directorate of Education, had taken delivery of 2,000 cut school uniforms to be sewn for distribution to pupils of selected schools in the area.
On exercise books, the MCE said the municipality had received 32,160 which had already been given out.
Mr Asamoah said the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), which took the biggest chunk of the assembly’s deductions at source continued to operate the traditional modules with some news additions such as the Youth in ICT, Youth in Film Industry, Dressmaking and Hair Dressing.
“There is the security module which has 65 youth selected for training in the area of Fire, Prisons and Police Service. 25 youth had also been selected for paid internship for two years with another group of 60 people selected for waste management and sanitation,” he said.
