Board of Trustees of NYC condemns KNUST sex-tape

Accra, May 25, GNA – The Board of Trustees of National Youth Council (NYC) has condemned the recording and circulation of an alleged sex-tape by a student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

A statement issued by the NYC copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday said “the NYC Board considers the incident as a demonstration of moral decadence and indiscipline exhibited by some youth in the country. “Instead of taking full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them (at great cost to their parents, families and the nation) in our institutions of higher learning, some youth resort to such perverted behaviour”, it added.

It called on the youth to refrain from such negative tendencies and rather exhibit leadership skills, which promoted human development since Ghana needed a self-driven, focused and motivated youth that strived for excellence and self development.

“Students in the universities should uphold the highest moral standards and provide an example to younger students,” the statement said. It said the Board was aware that similar incidents were happening on other university campuses as well and requested university authorities to take appropriate measures and sanctions to check these acts of moral decadence and indiscipline on their campuses. The statement appealed to the student body on KNUST campus and other campuses to support efforts to halt the moral decay permeating their campuses and the society.

It noted that checking these acts were a responsibility of society and appealed to parents, teachers and the public to work together to guide the youth towards what was good and right to create a bright future for the youth. “It is only when the potential of young people are tapped for positive purposes that the youth can fulfill their roles as key assets for Ghana’s development,” it added. 25 May 10
