Parliamentary Select Committee express disappointment on school projects

Kyebi (E/R), May 14, GNA – Members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, have expressed concern about contractors abandoni= ng school projects. Visiting two GETFund projects at the Kyebi Technical Institute on Thursday, the Committee said it was unfortunate that some contractors sta= rt the work and abandon it midway, whilst the students need it urgently. The project, a two- storey girls’ dormitory block, which was awarded= to Messrs Rabeck Construction Company in 2006, was far from completion becau= se the contractor was said to have abandoned it and was also not on site at the time members of the committee visited.

Also a two storey 12-classroom block awarded to Messrs Sey Construct= ion Limited, which was awarded in September 2008 and was expected to be completed in eight months, was still at the foundation level. At the SDA College of Education, Asokore, a library project, which w= as awarded in 2006, had also been abandoned.

Speaking to the media, Mr Emmanuel Bedzrah, Member of Parliament (MP= ) for Ho West and a member of the Committee, said the committee would make their recommendations to Parliament for the necessary action to be taken. He was however of praise to Messrs Antartic Construction Company, fo= r completion of many of the projects awarded to it and in cases where the project had not been completed, workers of the company were on site worki= ng. Earlier, members of the committee visited school projects being sponsored by the GET Fund in East Akim, Fanteakwa and the New Juaben Municipal areas.
