Printed T-Shirts Cause Confusion in Bawku

Bolgatanga, March 25, GNA – Security personnel in the Bawku Municipality on Wednesday appealed to Kusasis in the area to desist from harassing those wearing T-Shirts printed for the Damba festival that is t= o be celebrated in Bawku.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the Bawku Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Cashma= n Blewusie, said he had earlier in the day met a group of Kusasis at the Ba= wku lorry station and urged them to keep calm and tolerate Mamprusis who choo= se to wear T-shirts with the names of past Mamprusi chiefs printed on them.

The T-shirts had the names of Mamprusi chiefs dating back to 1721 printed on them and were meant to be used for the Damba festival that was=

planned for last weekend but could not take place due to security reasons= .. He said the Kusasis did not appear to be happy with the T-shirts and=

therefore took to harassing all who wore it.

Mr Blewushie said security personnel had to intervene to bring calm otherwise the situation could have easily escalated into another violent conflict. He warned that it was wrong to try to stop a fellow citizen from wear= ing a T-shirt because of what is printed on it. Bawku Municipal is still recovering from recurring violent conflicts=

and security personnel posted to keep peace in the area are alert to stop=

any sign of violence before it escalates. 25 March 10
