Security agencies warn against breach of peace in Yendi

Accra, Feb. 25, GNA – The security agencies on Thursday warned the public against fomenting trouble in Yendi in the Northern Region. A source close to the security agencies, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra that it had come to their attention that some persons are preparing feverishly to violate the guidelines set out by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in relation to this year’s celebration of the Damba Festival by fomenting trouble and breach the peace in Yendi and other environs of the Region.

The source close to REGSEC said the security agencies who had already deployed personnel in the area were keeping an eagle’s view on these agent provocateurs. It warned that “any attempt by these elements to breach the peace either by beating drums or holding funerals during the Damba festival, is at their own risk as they will be met with full and unrestrained force”. Meanwhile the GNA has observed that ahead of the Damba Festival, security has been beefed up in Yendi and indications are that any breach of the peace would not be countenanced. The festival is expected to be celebrated in the Gbewaa Palace only. 25 Feb. 10
