Court fines four for dumping waste into a stream

Kumasi, Ja 15, GNA – A Kumasi court has imposed a total fine of GH¢600.00 on four people living at Atonsu-Bokro in Kumasi for dumping waste into a stream. Debora Gyakamba, Mercy Azotiba, Rebecca Asare and Atta Maame pleaded guilty. Each will pay GH¢150.00 and in default serve eight months in prison.

They were arrested by environmental sanitation officers of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). Mr William Aduaga, an official of the KMA, told the court presided over by Mr S. K. Achina that the four had been dumping refuse into a stream in breach of the Assembly’s sanitation bye-law and were caught in the act on November 25 last year.
