Chief calls for modification of outmoded custom practices

Akim Abakoase (E/R), Dec. 11, GNA – Barima Akroma Acheampong, Chief of Akim Abakoase in the Atiwa District, has added his voice to the call to modify outmoded customs that tend to bring African culture into disrepute. Speaking to the GNA at Abakoase he named some of them as the Trokosi system, female genital mutilation and widowhood rites.

He expressed worry about how the youth are copying foreign culture shown on television and condemned parents who do not reprimand their children when they appear in foreign attire which exposes their bodies. He appealed to parents not to spend huge sums money on funerals and other social functions at the neglect of the payment of their children’s school fees.
