Boankra (Ash), Sept. 16, GNA – The Boankra Inland Port, initiated by the Shipping Council to serve the northern parts of Ghana and neighbouring landlocked countries of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger has been turned into a grazing field for herds of cattle. Unidentified herdsmen have for more than one month now been driving their animals to pasture and end up messing up the place. Apart from eating the grass planted, the sheer volume of dung left daily is a complete eyesore.
Worried citizens of Boankra complained to the Ghana News Agency about the activities of the herdsmen and appealed to the Council to take steps to stop them.
It should also speed up the pace of work on the project to ensure that it becomes operational as soon as possible. The only structure sitting at the inland port site now is an uncompleted administration block.
Mr Mohammed Boakye-Agyemang, Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, said the activities of the herdsmen had just come to his notice and gave the assurance that he would act swiftly to deal with the nuisance.
He cautioned the herdsmen to leave the place before the security services moved in to flush them out.
