NPP takes dramatic steps to recapture power in Election 2012

Accra, Aug. 22, GNA – The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday took dramatic steps aimed at setting the Party on course to recapture power in Election 2012 with the amendment of large portions of its Constitution.

However, a motion to change portions of Article 11; and Article 12 of the Constitution, on the selection of Parliamentary Candidates and Presidential Candidates were rejected.

The delegates conference dubbed: “Reflect, Rebuild and Recapture Power” was dedicated to the memory of the late Mr Peter Ala Adjetey, Former National Chairman of the Party and Former Speaker of Parliament. Portions of Article Two on the aims and objectives of the Party;

Three on membership; Four on disciplinary and grievance procedures; Five on structure and organizations; Six on constituency organization; Seven on regional organizations and Eight on overseas branches were amended. Other articles amended were; Nine on national organization; 10 on removal of elected officers; 13 on the parliamentary group; 14 on special organs of the party and 15 on council of elders. The current NPP Constitution was adopted in August 29, 1998.
