Sports Minister Resigns Over Loss of 45,000 Dollars

Ghana’s Youth and Sports minister, Mallam Yussif Isah has tendered in his resignation, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.
The statement, signed by government spokesperson Elizabeth Ohene, said Isah has taken the step “to save himself and the government further embarrassment from the event surrounding the loss of his suitcase with 45,000 US dollars during his recent trip to Sudan.”
The money was reported missing during the Black Stars trip to Sudan for a World Cup qualifying match. The statement gave no details.
It said the minister vigorously protests his innocence and states categorically that there has been no malfeasance on his part.
“In resigning his position, Mallam Issah pleads with the government to institute a probe into the activities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association.
“The few weeks that the minister spent at the ministry has convinced him that such a probe is urgently required.”
