Lambussie, (UW), April 23, GNA – Two district assemblies in the Upper West Region have approved President John Atta Mills’ nominees as district chief executives. The districts are Lambussie/Karni and Jirapa, bringing to four out of the region’s nine districts.
At a special meeting, all the 21 members of the Lambusssie/Karni District Assembly voted 100 percent to confirm Mr. Clement B. Benin, a 60 year old teacher, as its chief executive. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Benin thanked the members and asked for their cooperation and support to enable him to discharge his official duties effectively and diligently. He promised to run an open door administration devoid of negative attitudes that would undermine development.
Mr. Benin called for sustainable peace so that the people would utilize the limited resources they had to help to develop the district. “It is our duty as an assembly to develop the district. Let us therefore iron out our differences, get committed and identify ourselves as one people with a common destiny,” Mr. Benin advised. In a similar exercise, the 37 members of the Jirapa District Assembly confirmed Mr. Bernard Puozuing, a retired Blood Organiser at the Wa Regional Hospital, as the District Chief Executive. He pooled 34 votes in his favour, representing 89.4 percent of the total votes cast. Mr. Puozuing expressed his gratitude to the assembly members for the honour done him and President John Atta Mills and called for unity among the people to develop the area. He assured the people that he would always consult and tap the rich experiences and expertise of all stakeholders to help address the developmental challenges of the district. Earlier, Mr. Mahmud Khalid, Upper West Regional Minister, told the people that the quest to create a better Ghana would depend largely on the willingness of the people to provide support and cooperation to all developmental initiatives. He, however, told them that development would not move fast in the direction the people desired if the necessary institutional structures were not put in place to facilitate the process. 23 April 09
