Mother and daughter perish in domestic fire

Ho, Jan. 22, GNA- Madam Comfort Buami, a middle-aged woman, from Klefe, near Ho and her one-and-half year old daughter died following severe burns in a domestic fire in Ho last Sunday. Mr Felix Asamoah, husband and father of the deceased is also on admission at the Volta Regional Hospital. Their daughter whose name was not given, died a few hours after the incident followed a few days later by her mother who was then on admission at the Regional Hospital. Mr Emmanuel Sakutey Addo, Ho Municipal Fire Officer of the Ghana Fire Service who briefed the Ghana News Agency said the cause of the fire was being investigated.

He said the fire was put under control before his men got to the scene where they smelt petrol. Mr Addo said Miss Doreen Asamoah, 9, another daughter of the deceased said she was cooking on a gas burner in the kitchen, when suddenly a wind blew in igniting the fire at the time when her parents and little sister were in their bedroom.

Mr Addo said Doreen said she managed to escape and raised an alarm prompting her parents to venture through the raging fire with her little sister when the fire had almost engulfed the entire house. Mr Addo advised the public to be extra careful with their daily activities involving fire and electrical gadgets in order to prevent accidental fires. 22 Jan. 09
