EC, Security apparatus urged to win confidence

Winneba Junction, Oct. 9, GNA – A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kofi Mintah, has appealed to the Electoral Commission and the national security apparatus to conduct their activities in the run-up to the December poll in a manner that would win the confidence of political parties and the electorate. Mr Mintah, a former Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, said political tension that seemed to be mounting in the country was due to mistrust in the electoral process, the security agents and in the political parties themselves.

Mr. Mintah told the GNA in an interview that both the NDC and the NPP suspected that there were some manoeuvres going on to outwit each other. “This suspicion seems to be undermining the peaceful conduct of the poll,” he said and appealed to people who would be put in charge of the conduct of the election to remain impartial in the discharge of their duties.

Mr. Mintah described injustice as the greatest enemy of peace and said a victim of injustice cannot be told to live in peace. “To be able to sustain the peace we are enjoying it behoves on every citizen to do away with things that do not promote peace. We are all talking about sustenance of peace but some people do not seem to be doing things that bring peace,” he said. 09 Oct 08
