School pupils who lost uniforms to tidal waves

Dzita, Sept 22, GNA – Authorities of schools in communities affected by the recent tidal waves in the Keta area have agreed to allow pupils to attend classes in other dresses as many of them lost their school uniforms in the disaster.

The waves washed away buildings and personal effects including school uniforms, footwear, school bags and books. Mr Samuel Brass Dedzo, Assembly Member for Dzita Area, told the Ghana News Agency that the decision was taken when schools reopened last Tuesday and many pupils in those communities turned up in other dresses and without footwear.

National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) data on the disaster said 354 school kids were among 1,605 people affected by the disaster at Dzita, Kplorwotokor, Atokor and Dakope. 22 Sept 08
