Apam (C/R), Aug. 4, GNA – The paramount chief of Akyempim Traditional Area in the Central Region, Obrifo Ahunaku Ahor Ankobea II, at the weekend appealed to parents to ensure that only children of 18 years and above register during the current voter registration. He reminded parents that it is an offence for minors to register.
Obrifo Ahor Ankobea made the appeal at a press conference at Apam on Sunday during which he expressed his concern about reported disturbances at some registration centres. He cautioned minors against being influenced by politicians or their supporters to commit electoral offences, saying this could endanger their future.
The Omanhene also appealed to the leadership of political parties, especially the NPP and the NDC, to bring their agents and supporters to order. He appealed to the Electoral Commission to engage the services of the military to beef up security at the centres. “Some of us are gripped with fear as to how peaceful the upcoming general election will be in the face of developments at the registration centres,” the chief added. He called on religious organisations and institutions committed to promoting democracy in the country to act swiftly to nip any potential electoral violence in the bud.
