Part of Taysec’s Tamale Road Contract terminated

The government has withdrawn a part of the contract given out to Taysec Construction Limited to rehabilitate roads in the Tamale Municipality.

As a result, fresh bids will soon open for contract work on the Sakasaka Quarters, education ridge and industrial area roads.

A source at the Ghana Highway Authority told the GNA in Tamale on Tuesday that the cost of construction of the roads by Taysec was exceptionally high and government did not have enough resource to maintain the company.

The source said the responsibility of the roads would be slotted to the Department of Urban Roads and no longer the Ghana Highway Authority.

The project manager of Taysec, Mr John Hamilton, confirmed the termination of the contract but said the company would still be around to finishes the other works, which have not been terminated.

The roads still under construction are the Aboabo roads inside the regional hospital, regional administration and the residency.

Mr. Hamilton declined to tell how much the government owes the company but said the remaining job could be finished in January if funds were made available.
