Assemblyman defeats NDC MP for Akan in primaries

Kadjebi, April 23, GNA – Mr Joseph Kwadjo Ofori, Assemblyman for Kadjebi Central, last weekend defeated Mr John Kudjo Gyapong, incumbent NDC Member of Parliament for Akan Constituency to become the new candidate to contest for the seat.

Five aspirants contested for the seat.

Mr Ofori polled 93 out of the 192 votes cast to defeat Mr Gyapong who had 54 votes in an election conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission.

Mr Nicholas Fato, a former Volta Regional Best Farmer came third with 34 votes while Nana Kwaw Yaidoo, a businessman had 10 votes and Mr Seth Frank Alifo, an Educationist had a vote. Mr Ofori expressed appreciation for the trust reposed in him and assured the delegates that he would retain the seat for the party. The other aspirants pledged their unalloyed support and urged supporters of the Party to intensify their campaign to win the seat. Mr Modestus Ahiable, Volta Regional Chairman of the Party thanked the delegates for displaying maturity in the elections.

He said there was ample evidence to show that the Akan Constituency would forever remain the ‘gazzeted’ property of the NDC. Mr Ahiable noted that the ruling NPP would suffer humiliation in the impending December 7 election and asked Party supporters nation-wide to commit human and material resources towards this victory.

In another development, Mr Gershon Gbediame, incumbent NDC MP for Nkwanta-South was re-elected to represent the Party in the Constituency. He polled 176 out of the 234 votes cast to beat Mr Peter Kenyenso, a businessman who had 35 votes, Mr Michael Agbo, a social worker had 16 votes and Mr Essene Wentumey, a businessman had a vote in an election supervised by officials of EC on Tuesday.
