Budget officer elected as Presiding Member for Akyemmansa District

Akyem Ofoase, April 18, GNA – Mr Samuel Gyasi Abrokwah, 53-year-old Eastern Regional budget officer, has been elected the Presiding Member for the new Akyemmansa District Assembly after two rounds of voting at the assembly’s meeting at Akyem Ofoase.

Mr Abrokwah polled 16 votes as against 11 votes obtained by Mr Ernest Amoah in the first round but the latter stepped down in the second round to pave way for Mr Abrokwah to be elected with 26 votes out of the 27 votes cast.

Four assembly members were absent.

Mr Abrokwah said the situation where most assemblies relied on the Common Fund for development was not the best and he would ensure that the assembly mobilized internal revenue to finance its development projects.

He said he would insist that 50 percent of internally generated revenue would be channelled into development instead of recurrent expenditure.

Mr David Oppon-Kusi, Member of Parliament (MP) Ofoase-Ayirebi, called for unity among members to enhance development in the area. He urged the assembly members to educate the youth who had attained 18 years of age to register when the voters register is re-opened next month.
