A community-based health facility inaugurated at Nsunensa in Brong Ahafo

Nsunensa (BA), April 11, GNA – A 10,000 Ghana cedis community-based health planning service compound project at Nsunensa, a farming community in Nkoranza South District has been inaugurated. It was jointly financed by the United States Embassy, Methodist Church of Ghana and Nkoranza District Assembly for about 14 settler farming communities.

The facility comprising a clinic and nurses’ quarters was constructed in 2003 but abandoned due to lack of staff to man it. Inaugurating the facility, Alhaji Dr Mohammed Bin Ibrahim, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Health Services, said it would provide preventive health care delivery. He said provision of such facilities in rural areas was to offer quality health care services at the door steps of the people and advised beneficiary communities to patronize the facility to help prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases.

Dr Ibrahim called on the staff to offer regular health talks and advice to the people for better personal hygiene. Mr James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive urged the people who had not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme to register to have access to free and quality health care delivery. He said the assembly would install a solar energy system to enhance the lighting system at the facility and advised the beneficiary communities and staff to adopt the culture of maintenance to prolong its life span.

Mr B.C. Kwasi Botwe, Administrator of Methodist Hospital at Wenchi gave the assurance that Wenchi Diocese of the Church would continue to support the facility. He presented some beds, blankets and equipment to the facility and advised the staff to take good care of them. Madam Alice Vorleto, Acting Nkoranza South District Director of Health Services, advised the people to keep their surroundings clean and adhere to proper personal hygiene to prevent diseases. Nana Okofo Agyapong III, Adontenhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, expressed appreciation to the financiers for the facility.
