9-month baby, 2-yr-old child burnt to death in Offinso

A two-year-old child and a nine-month-old baby have been burnt to death in Offinso in the Ashanti region during the wee hours of Tuesday.

The mother of the deceased Salomey Tuffour – a professional nurse – managed to escape during the fire outbreak.

Starrfmonline.com understands that the mother of the children rushed out to call for help from neighbours when the inferno sparked.

“We were asleep around 10:30-11:00pm and I heard someone shouting so I came out only to see a fire in my neighbour’s room with her children trapped inside so we called the Fire Service to help but their water supply ran out so they had to leave to refill their tank before coming back to help extinguish the fire,” an eyewitness Charlotte told a correspondent Evans Gyamera-Antwi.

“Their water wasn’t enough again so they left but when they returned, the two children in the room were burnt completely into ashes because their mum came seeking for help so she couldn’t make her way back to the room. We only heard the children sadly crying on top of their voices but there was nothing anyone could do to save them.”

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
