42 new births in Kumasi on Xmas day

Six government health facilities in the Kumasi Metropolis recorded 42 births, 22 female babies and 20 male babies, on Tuesday, Christmas day.

They are the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Manhyia District Hospital, Suntreso Government Hospital, Kumasi South District Hospital, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital and Tafo Government Hospital.

KATH recorded 24 births out of which, 13 were females and the 11 males, and two babies were given birth to through caesarean operation.

Mrs Felicia Owusu-Ansah, Principal Nursing Officer at the KATH, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the babies and their mothers were doing well, and many of the mothers and their children had already been discharged.

Madam Gloria Agyeman, a Principal Midwifery Officer at Manhyia Hospital, said all the eight births there were through normal means, and the babies and their mothers had been discharged.

She asked pregnant women to attend antenatal clinic to avoid complications and to exclusively breastfeed their babies.

Mrs Comfort Agyapong, a Senior Midwife at the Tafo Government Hospital, said both mothers and their three babies were in good health.

At Suntreso Hospital, the only female baby and the mother were doing well , according to Ms Mercy Agyir, a Senior Staff Midwife.

At the Kumasi South Hospital, four births, one through caesarean operation, was recorded, according to Ms Gladys Asantewaah, the Midwife at the facility.
