41 year unemployed jailed 25 for defilement

Nsawam, June 24, GNA – The Nsawam circuit court presided over by Mrs. Jennifer Ann Myers on Tuesday sentenced Nathaniel Mensah a 41-year-old unemployed from Djankrom near Nsawam to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 2-year-old girl. Nathaniel Mensah pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alex Cosmos told the court that on June 14 this year, at about 11.00 hours, the victim who lived with her grandmother in the same house with the accused person, was nowhere to be found. The grandmother who was searching for her suddenly heard the victim’s voice in the accused person’s room.

The Prosecution said the grandmother quickly rushed to the room and was amazed to see that the accused had placed the victim on his laps while lying naked on the floor.

The Prosecution said when the accused saw the victim’s grandmother he quickly removed the victim and sat her on the floor and the grandmother started shouting for assistance which attracted the attention of other people nearby who rushed to the scene. Police Inspector Cosmos said a report was made and the accused was arrested. A police medical report form was then issued to the grandmother who sent the victim for examination. The medical report indicated that the victim has been defiled.

The Prosecution said after investigations by the police, Mensah was charged with the offence and brought to court. The court ordered him to pay GH¢800 as compensation to the victim. 24 June 11
