The 37 Military hospital in Accra is attending to more emergency cases as the strike by members of the Ghana Medical Association over their condition of service continues.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the Hospital on Friday revealed that both the out-patient department of the hospital and the emergency unit were full with patients seeking medical attention.
The GNA observed that ambulances kept coming to the hospital, mostly from the Greater Accra Region, bringing sick patients who needed urgent treatment.
It also found out that, most of the patients at the various wards, especially the maternity ward, had no beds available for them, as a result of the huge patronage, compelling some of them to use the chairs as bed.
Madam Afia Yowa, a patient at the female ward, in an interview, appealed to the Ministry of Health to improve the infrastructure at the hospital to cater for the huge number.
“Currently, we need more beds here as most of the patients sleep on the floor and I will also urge government to consider expanding the hospital to accommodate more emergency cases,” she said.
She also appealed to government to heed to the demands of the striking doctors to enable them to return to work to provide quality healthcare to the people.
