21,000 Affordable houses to be built nationwide

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) is to replicate the social housing project piloted in Tamale a year ago in other parts of the country.

Consequently, the government has decided to construct 21,000 affordable housing units throughout the country.

The sector Minister, Mr Julius Debrah, announced this in Tamale yesterday at the start of his inspection tour of projects in the region as a build-up to the national sanitation day to be held in Tamale next Saturday.

Mr Debrah is accompanied on the tour by the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna.

During the tour, Mr Debrah and his entourage will pay courtesy calls on some chiefs in the region to solicit their support towards the event and also hold discussions with them on some local governance challenges in their areas.

He said he was in the region to also interact with the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) on ways to improve decentralisation in the government’s quest to improve local governance and also bring governance to the doorstep of the people.

Alhaji Limuna thanked the minister and his entourage for the visit.
