21 Suspects Linked to 2020, 2024 Election Violence; 15 Dead, 40 Injured…Interior Minister

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has revealed that 21 suspects have been identified in connection with violent incidents that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 general elections, which resulted in 15 deaths and 40 injuries across the country.

 

The Minister speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday 4th November 2025 disclosed that four suspects are currently on bail, five remain on remand, while arrest warrants have been issued for the remaining individuals.

 

The reported cases cut across multiple regions and constituencies. During the 2020 elections, fatalities were recorded in Techiman South (Bono East), Odododiodio and Ablekuma Central (Greater Accra), Banda and Dormaa West (Bono), and Savelugu (Northern Region). Injuries in these areas ranged from one to fifteen per incident.

 

For the 2024 elections, deaths were reported in Awutu Senya East (Central Region), Tolon (Northern Region), Damango (Savannah Region), Nkoranza South (Bono East), and Offinso North and Ahafo Ano South-West (Ashanti Region). The total number of injuries recorded during the 2024 polls stood at six.

 

Muntaka stressed that law enforcement agencies are pursuing all suspects to ensure they face justice, adding that the government is implementing stronger preventive measures to curb election-related violence in future elections.

 

According to the Minister, his Ministry remains committed to maintaining peace and protecting lives during Ghana’s democratic processes.
