172 communities to be connected to national grid

172 communities in the Krobo enclave of the Eastern region will soon be connected to the national grid in other to improve the local economy under the rural electrification Project, President John Mahama has said.

The President made the disclosure while addressing chiefs and People of Oterkpolu on Tuesday after inspecting construction works on the Odumase- Oterpkolu road.

He said funding has already been secured for the project.

“When the electrification of the Eastern region was done a lot of communities in Upper Yilo were left out and so we promised that we will extend the rural electrification to cover to these communities. We did a survey of those communities and there are almost 172 of them.

“ ..If you heard recently, we have approved the financing in parliament and so the contractors are ready to start the electrification of those communities”.

The President also assured residents that the minister for Water Resource Works and Housing will soon cut sod for work to begin on the water expansion project for communities neglected in the Bukuno water project.

For his part, the Dademankye of Oterkpolu, Narh Opata II expressed the gratitude of his subjects to the government for the infrastructural development in the area.
