Zongoyire Honoured

The Ghana Tourist Board and Global Environmental facility have honoured the Zongoyire Community in the Bawku – West District for creating fire belts in the area to protect the environment against bush fires during the dry season.

The community received a well, a shield, citation and a certificate costing 12.5 million cedis. The well will be fitted with a hand pump. The presentation was made through the Bawku-West District Secretariat of NADMO

The Bawku West District Co-ordinator of NADMO, Mr Tahiru Issahaku Ahmed, announced this during a working visit to the Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NADMO, Mr Darlos Tong to the District.

In another development, he said the Action Aid Ghana and the Bawku-West District assembly have supported NADMO and the Ghana National Fire Service to train over a thousand (1000) anti-bush fire volunteers to fight fire outbreaks in the district.

The PRO, Mr Tong, appealed to the people in the area not only to plant trees around their homes to serve as windbreaks but also organise educational programmes on disaster and how to prevent and mitigate its occurrences.
