ZAKAT Foundation donates to KATH

Kumasi, Nov 11, GNA- The ZAKAT Foundation, a philanthropic organisation based in Chicago, USA, has donated cash and food items worth 2.2 million cedis to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The cash of one million cedis is for HIV inmates of the hospital to enable them buy their drugs, while 1.2 million-cedi worth of food items, including quantity of rice, some cooking oil and canned fish went to the Muslim staff of KATH to support them in activities to round off the Ramadan.

Alhaji Salia Alhassan, the local representative of ZAKAT, who made the donation, said the gesture was to assist Muslims in the low income group to be able to enjoy the Ramadan festivities.

Mrs Margaret Atiemo, Director of Nursing Services at KATH, who received the cash and food items, thanked the donors and said the one million cedis would be used to buy drugs for the patients.
