Zain rehabilitates Junior High School

Odumasi (E/R), Aug. 13, GNA – Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister on Wednesday reiterated the need for parents to make child education a priority since it was the most valuable gift they could give to their wards in life.

He said education is one of the major tools that promote development of a child’s intellectual, mental formation as well as the behavioral pattern.

The minister said this at Krobo Odumasi when he inaugurated a six unit classroom block for Odumasi Presbyterian Junior High School. The facility built by Zain Telecommunication Company also comprised computer laboratory with internet access, library and teachers common room.

Mr Ampofo said although every child had the right to education, it was not only the responsibility of government. “It’s a shared responsibility between the state, individual, parent as well as teachers,” he said.

He called on corporate bodies not to only sponsor entertainment activities but should also endeavor to help pupils in deprived communities. Mr Amofo hinted that as parts of effort by government to make the school a model one, the National School Feeding Pogramme (NSFP) would be extended to the students.

Mr Philip Sowah, Country Director of Zain Ghana said the ultra modern facility was the only Junior High School in the area with access facilities for persons with disability, a computer lab, internet access and a library.

“It helps the school generate revenue by giving other schools in the surrounding area access to the computer lab, creates employment in Odumase by establishing a network and employs residents as distributors.” Mr Sowah said the library had been dedicated to the memory of Bernard Narteh, a class 6 pupil who lost his life during a rainstorm. Zain’s commitment to re-build the Odumasi Presbyterian Junior High School was prompted by a publication on May 7, 2009 on the dangers faced by the pupils and teachers in the school, which was built in 1883.
