Youth encouraged to acquire artisanal and craftsmanship skills for a sustainable future

Young individuals, particularly females, have been encouraged to develop interest in skills training and craftsmanship skills, which are increasingly considered essential for promoting a sustainable future.

During his address at the Graduation Ceremony of the Dormaa Ahenkro Branch of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA), Mr. Ibrahim Musah, a distinguished Poultry Farmer in Dormaa and the 2015 National Best Farmer, expressed his enthusiasm for the graduates who have endeavor to acquire skills to enhance their future prospects.

He remarked that it is disheartening to witness vibrant youth who are not engaged in any business or lacking knowledge of artisanal and skills training. He advised that, in order to secure a better future, it is crucial to promptly participate in skills training to facilitate the attainment of a respectable job for a sustainable future. He underscored that these enduring skills not only offer viable career opportunities but also contribute to a more resilient and self-sufficient society.

Nana Afia Ameyaa, the Queen Mother of Kyeremehkrom, emphasized that hairdressing is among the most lucrative professions globally. She urged the graduates to effectively utilize the skills they have acquired to fully benefit from them.

Additionally, she advised them to refrain from engaging in gossip, to foster unity and cooperation, and to train others who approach them for skill development. She stated that a key to successful hairdressing is maintaining discretion, ensuring that clients’ hair conditions are not disclosed to others emphasizing that the graduates must focus on their work, minimize excessive talking, and extend the utmost respect to their clients to facilitate effective and sustainable services

Madam Abena Hawa, President of the Dormaa Ahenkro Branch of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHABA), elaborated that hairdressing was introduced in Ghana by Europeans over 50 years ago. She noted that hairdressing significantly enhances women’s beauty, which has led to the adoption of these skills to educate others, enabling them to practice the profession and support their families and communities. She stated that this graduation ceremony will provide the beneficiaries with the opportunity to establish their own services and accept apprentices, thereby expanding hairdressing activities.
