Tamale, Aug. 19,GNA – A total of 250 young ladies drawn from various parts of the Northern Region are attending a two-day career and entrepreneurial fair that is aimed at equipping them to pursue their career choices.
The fair, which is the second of its kind in the region, would be attended by experts from diverse backgrounds who will inspire the young ladies to aspire for greater laurels. It is being organized by the The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), an NGO, is organizing the fair under the theme, 93opportunities and possibilities”. The maiden fai= r took place last year.
Mrs. Delores Dickson, Country Director of CAMFED, in her opening remarks on Thursday in Tamale called, on the young ladies to make good use of the opportunities granted them to develop new skills and innovations. She said the career fair was an opportunity for those who might have lost hope to be re-invigorated for future challenges adding, 93when opportunities come by us=85 we must embrace it and make good use of it”. Madam Elizabeth De-Souza, the Northern Regional Director of Education, commended CAMFED as one of the most credible NGOs that was making positive impact in the lives of people in the region particularly the girl-child saying that, 93Your activities are visible in most of our schools”. She urged the beneficiaries not to limit their time and opportunities on trivial issues but to concentrate on things that will enhance their live= s positively.
Madam De-Souza said, 91what limits a man or woman is not what he or s= he has but what he or she thinks’, explaining they should not blame poverty for their predicaments and that poverty is not a barrier to progress but is to fortify them to fight harder. Mr. San Nasamu Asabigi, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, observed that despite progress being made by women in Ghana and globally, the region was still plagued with numerous socio-cultural challenges that drove them into occupations with low economic returns.
He said the fair was therefore a good platform to re-orient the young ladies stressing, the Government was still committed to the development of the Northern sector of the country. “As young people, the choices we make today will define the future o= f our region and nation. I encourage you to derive maximum benefit from participating in the fair and find out about the different fields and caree= r paths”, Mr. Asabigi said.
