Yamfo (B/A), July 26, GNA – Mr George Kojo Abiw-Abaidoo, Headmaster of Yamfo Anglican Senior Secondary School in the Tano District of Brong-Ahafo Region has appealed the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to support the school.
Mr Abiw-Abaidoo said the absence of assistance from the GETFund was affecting the implementation of development projects in the school, which was affecting its academic progress.
The Headmaster made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Yamfo on Monday.
He said, “the school is gradually sinking as JSS students in the area continue to refuse to enter the school in view of its unattractive physical structures of late”.
Mr Abiw-Abaidoo said the school, which was upgraded to the SSS level in 1991 and had until recently, contributed its quota in terms of academic, sports and other development of the district.
He expressed regret that, since the inception of the GETFUND the school had not benefited from its support and said it was the Anglican Church, which had been supporting it.
Mr Abiw-Abaidoo mentioned lack of an administration block, science laboratory, library and school bus as some of the problems confronting the school and said a classroom now served as the administration and Masters’ common room.
He said the 360 students had only 150 desks resulting in congestion in the classrooms and appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the GETFUND Secretariat for assistance to guarantee quality teaching and learning.
The head master said the community started constructing a library and an administration block in 2002 but the project had been abandoned due to financial constraints.
Mr Abiw-Abaidoo appealed to Non-Governmental Organisations and other corporate bodies to assist the school to enable the youth to become responsible citizens in future.
