WR describes Nduom’s campaign launch as illegal

Takoradi, Oct. 17, GNA – The Western Regional branch of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) on Sunday described the proposed launch of the presidential campaign by Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom as illegal and unwarranted.

Mr Samuel Gordon Etroo, Regional Chairman of the party told the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi that the Central Committee of the Party have not given the clearance or certify any member of the party for such activities.

“The party has not opened nomination for individuals to even buy forms let alone be vetted,” he said.

The much rumoured campaign launch of Dr Nduom is to take place on Wednesday, October 19, at either the Accra International Conference Centre or the Coconut Regency Hotel in Accra.

Mr Etroo said any attempt by Dr Nduom to launch a campaign would be illegally and underminedthe authority of the Central Committee and the National Executives.

He said the leadership of the party of the CPP had not given anybody the green light to undertake campaign activities.

Mr Etroo noted that the dissolution of the Central Committee and the subsequent swearing-in of new executives have not given the party’s hierarchy the chance to open primaries for interested presidential candidates to file their nominations.

The Regional Chairman therefore retorted that, “Dr. Nduom do not have the legal capacity to initiative such a process which is an affront to the party’s internal structures.”

He added that information gathered around the 10 regions showed total disapproval of Dr Nduom’s actions.

Dr Nduom was the CPP Presidential Candidate in the 2008 General Election.
