World Aids Day

Saturday December 1st was observed worldwide as World AIDS Day, the day set aside to enable the world to refocus on the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

For the second time running, UNAIDS selected the theme “Men Make a Difference. I Care… do you”? The reason for this was to re-emphasise the role that men play in curbing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The Ghana AIDS Commission in collaboration with Okyenhene Osaguefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin hosted the World AIDS Day ceremonies at Kyebi., which included a marathon walk, exhibition and durbar.

Among AIDS-related activities in the past month, Rotract Club of Accra held a Presidential Charity Ball under the theme, “Gender Equity – Important to Curbing HIV-AIDS Pandemic” at the Barclays Club House in Accra.

Ms. Christine Churcher, Minister of Primary, Secondary and Girl Child Education was the Guest of Honour and Professor F.T. Sai, Chairman of the AIDS Commission, the Guest Speaker.
