Insurance Companies in the country have been asked to institute schemes for workers in organisations that will provide adequate compensation for occupational accidents. This is because when workers are adequately compensated and assured of safety at their work places, they give of their best. A Deputy Minister of Roads and Transport, Mr.. Steve Akorli, stated this when he opened a two-week course on Construction Insurance in Accra. Organised by the West Africa Insurance Institute in collaboration with the National Insurance Commission, the workshop aims at equipping participants with necessary skills that will help reduce problems related to Workman’s Compensation Insurance and other insurances for workers. Mr.. Steve Akorli, hoped that the course will be of immense benefit to both the private construction firms and workers unions in the country. The Acting Director of the West African Insurance Institute, Miss Dowuona Hammond, said the Institute was established to provide professional insurance education and research into various insurance and construction companies in West Africa. She said the Institute has so far trained one thousand 400 students since its inception in 1978. End
