Women’s Manifesto meeting to be held in Ho

Ho, May 13, GNA – Women in Law and Development in Africa (WILDAF) and Abantu for Development, both Civil Society Organisations are to hold a day’s consultative meeting in Ho on Friday to discuss strategies to imprint women’s concerns on the agenda of political parties.

The theme of the meeting, according to a release signed by Mrs Hilary Gbedemah, of WILDAF is “Women’s Participation in Decision Making at all Levels-Key to Ghana’s Development”. The release said the meeting was being held in the wake of the coming December elections and was part of a nationwide effort to come out with a women’s Manifesto.

Ms Patience Nutakor, Office Administrator of WILDAF told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the wide spectrum of representation, including traditional rulers, political parties, medical practitioners, market women and other professional groupings was expected to give the meeting a deep insight into women’s concerns.

Issues to be discussed at the meeting include the low participation of women in governance, their poor access to resources critical for making a living, their predominance among people in poverty and particular health concerns such as the unacceptable levels of maternal mortality.
