Woman, 55, trapped to death

Ho, Jan. 14, GNA – Madam Yawa Anna Loyi, 55, a resident of Ziavi-Dzogbe has been trapped to death by a silk-cotton tree allegedly being felled by some chainsaw operators at Ziavi-Dzogbe early this year. Madam Loyi until her death had been offering prayer intercessions for people, a relative told the Ghana News Agency. The relative said Madam Loyi who hailed from Gbi-Abansi in Hohoe met the tragedy when she and her grandson had gone to pick some oranges in the area where the tree was being felled. The relative alleged that the chain saw operators had earlier told Madam Loyi that she could come to pick the oranges when she no longer heard the noise of the chainsaw.

She therefore asked her grandson to accompany her to pick the oranges when the chainsaw went silent only to get trapped by the falling tree while her grandson who was fast escaped unhurt. The relative said a large quantity of water gushed out of the tree. The Ho Municipal Police Commander, Mr Samuel Tetteh however told the GNA that Madam Loyi died at the Ho Municipal hospital on being rushed there in coma by the five people involved in the felling of the tree.

He said Edem Agbemenu the grandson of Madam Loyi who escaped the tragedy shouted for help prompting the five people involved in the felling of the tree to come to her rescue. Mr Tetteh said the five people had been processed for court while the body of the deceased have been deposited at the Police Hospital awaiting autopsy while investigations continue. 14 Jan. 09
