WiLDAF-Ghana salutes new EC Boss

The Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF), Ghana, on Friday joined teeming gender advocates to commend Mrs. Charlotte Ama Osei, for assuming the high office of Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC).

As you assume this office as the first female Chairperson of the Commission, you will be filling huge shoes left behind by Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, the immediate past Chairman.

We pledge our unflinching support to you and encourage you to perform your duties with courage derived from Article 46 of the Constitution,a statement signed by Mr Frank Bodza, WiLDAF Programme Manager in Charge of Governance and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra stated.

WiLDAF-Ghana reminded Mrs Osei of the Constitutional protection that; Except as provided for in this Constitution or in any other law not inconsistent with this Constitution, in performance of its functions, the Electoral Commission, shall not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority.

‘WiLDAF-Ghana wishes you success in your new job and call on political parties and the general public to support you to discharge your duties.’

WiLDAF-Ghana also commended government for exhibiting political boldness and reposing confidence in Mrs Osei, which was a firm demonstration of commitment to affirmative action.
