Western Regional Police to establish Narcotics Squad

Sekondi, June 23, GNA – The Western Regional Police Command will soon establish a Narcotics Squad at the Central and Takoradi Police Stations to deal with drug related offences, Mr. Kofi D. Arthur, the Western Regional Police Commander, said at a press conference on Thursday. He said the service would also begin foot patrols within the region, especially around areas where drugs are sold.

Mr Arthur said the crime and drug offences were increasing and every effort must be made to curb them. He said on June 18, 30 bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were retrieved from a house at Kweikuma Zongo and one Kwadwo Krah, aged 42, a driver and Nicholas Mensah, his mate, have been arrested in connection with the drug.

One Latif, alleged to have hired the truck and loaded it with the consignment from Badu a village near Nsorkor in the Brong Ahafo Region, has also been arrested. He said between June 20 and 21, the police arrested John Belepe, 34, Kwasi Eshun, 22, and Baba Ibrahim, 37 at Adiembra Ridge and Adiembra Zongo for alleged robbery. Mr Arthur therefore appealed to the general public to assist the Police to fight crime.
