The annual Western Region Independence Day Celebration inter-district Junior High School (JHS) Quiz Competition is to come off on Friday 4th March, 2016.
The event scheduled to be hosted at the Essiama Secondary Technical School in the Ellembele District of the Western Region, is aimed at marking the Independence Day Celebration while fostering unity among the youth in the area.
Schools would be competing among themselves in various subjects in pre and post Independence historical facts as well as other subjects such as current affairs, science, mathematics, technology and engineering.
A release signed by Mr Koame Adonle Mieza, Executive Director of Programmes of the Nzema Events Management Ltd, organisers of the Competition on Monday said this year’s edition would have six schools from the six districts and municipal assemblies along the coastal belt of the Region competing.
The participating districts are Jomoro District which would be represented by Alarezule DC JHS, Ahanta West District -Abura R/E B/A JHS, Nzema East-Morning Star Preparatory/JHS Axim (defending champions), Ellembele District- Christ Leading-Esiama, Shama District-Supomu Dunkwa Methodist JHS.
The events is to be hosted in partnership with Saigha Foundation, an NGO based in Nzema and being sponsored by the Member of Parliament for Ellembele, Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, as well as other organisations including Tigo Ghana, Tullow Ghana Ltd, and the Jomoro, Ahanta West, Shama and Ellembele Districts.
The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service and all participating Districts are also supporting the celebrations.
Winners would take away trophy, plagues, certificates, school bags, solar lamps, text and exercise books and cash prizes.
Last year’s edition was won by Morning Star from the Nzema East Municipality.
The event is also expected to be attended by MPs, DCEs/MCEs, District Directors of Education, Chiefs and opinion leaders, and other key players in the educational sector.
