We will deal ruthlessly with cop killers – IGP

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, has tasked his men to deal ruthlessly with any person who attacks a police officer or police post.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of new recruits in Accra, the IGP warned miscreants who plan to attack police officers in the country to review their notes or face the full rigors of the law.

“Let me send a stern warning to all criminal minded persons who think officers of the Ghana Police Service can be objects of attacks to revise their notes.

“Our respect for the law and due process do not mean we will keep mute over senseless killings of our officers in uniform as well as baseless attacks on police posts and stations.

“I have charged my commanders to deal ruthlessly with anyone who henceforth dares to wage senseless attacks on any police installation or officer,” the IGP said Friday.

His comments come in the wake of an upsurge of attacks on police officers in the country.

Three police officers have been killed since February by armed gangs at different locations in the country. The latest that has shocked the country is the killing of a police officer at Lapaz in Accra in broad daylight by two robbers.

Fifteen suspected criminals have since been arrested in connection with that incident and are being screened by the Police.
