We Over Reacted – Police Boss

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, ACP Oppong Asante has admitted that the police personnel who were detailed to quell disturbances that erupted at the Sunyani Polytechnic used more violent force than necessary.

”My men actually exceeded the operations. I won’t deny that fact and we have learnt our lessons”, ACP Oppong Asante told listeners of radio BAR, a local radio station in Sunyani.

ACP Asante therefore assured aggrieved students, the school authorities and the general public who accused the police of unwarranted brutalities and unprofessional conduct that ”the authorities are doing every thing possible to get to the bottom of the incident and that whoever is found culpable would face the music”.

The IGP, Nana Owusu Nsiah has also ordered investigations into the incident. Two students sustained injuries when the police fired shots at rampaging students who had mounted road blocks on the main Sunyani-Kumasi road. The students were protesting against the death of one of their colleagues who was alleged knocked down by a car.
