We now believe gov’t after meeting – Kantamanto leaders

The Government has had a “fruitful discussion” with the leadership of the Kantomanto market which got ravaged by fire on Sunday.

The President was given a full briefing of the outbreak upon his return from South Africa last night.

He quickly requested a meeting with the leaders of the traders over the disaster and the subsequent impasse between them and City authorities.

The traders were at daggers drawn with city authorities over a decision by the latter to relocate them to different market centres in the capital.

The meeting with the President, according to our Presidential Correspondent Kwame Danso Acheampong was to enable him firstly commiserate with the traders and also explore avenues of resolving the impasse between them and the Accra metropolitan Assembly.

Speaking to some of the workers after the meeting, the leadership of the Kantamanto market stated “the meeting with the Chief of Staff was fruitful adding that we now believe the government”.

They, however, failed to state whether they will now move away for the government to rebuild the market.
