We need more Kindergartens – Fobih

Accra, Sept. 6, GNA – Professor Dominic Kweku Fobih, Minister of Education Science and Sports on Thursday directed all District Directors of Education to liaise with District Assemblies to set up Kindergartens within communities that did not have any.

He said as from Tuesday September 11, all children aged four years and above were expected to be in school under the new educational reform.

“We are expecting all the nation’s four-years olds to be enrolled in Kindergarten and the KGs are now part of the FCUBE,” he said. The Minister said in areas where there were no KG buildings, the district directors in collaboration with the District Assemblies are to convert available community centres and churches into interim KG rooms. “Where possible District Assembly halls could also be used,” he said.

The Minister also appealed to chiefs and opinion leaders in all communities to help achieve the objective of securing temporary accommodation for the children.

Prof. Fobih said government was looking forward to this year’s “My First Day at School” to be celebrated with pomp and pageantry and appealed to all to help make it a special one.
