We need about $2 Billion to execute water projects- Patrick Boamah

A Deputy Minister-designate for Water Resources and Sanitation, Patrick Yaw Boamah says Ghana needs about $2 billion to execute projects that would provide potable water to the people.

“We need about $2 billion to solve water problems in the country and we must find a way of raising funds for this major project,” Mr. Boamah

Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting Thursday, April 6, 2017, the deputy minister nominee noted that government cannot provide adequate potable water to the people with the current level of funding to the sector.

Mr. Boamah has therefore suggested that government raised funds through bonds issue to finance water projects in the country.

“We need to take bold steps to issue bonds to get the necessary funding to finance water projects to ensure that safe adequate water is delivered to the good people of this country,” he reiterated.

According to Mr. Boamah who is also the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central Constituency in Accra, NPP manifesto promised among others, to provide at least 25,000 boreholes and 300 small town water projects across the country.

He therefore commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for creating the new Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to adequately confront the two major challenges of water and sanitation in Ghana.
