“We have improved on healthcare”- Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Friday said the country witnessed a massive health care improvement in the last four years than any other regime in the fourth Republic.

“Across the country, an unprecedented number of modern health care delivery facilities including the upgrading of the Tamale Hospital into an ultra-modern Teaching Hospital have been provided,” he added.

President Mahama who announced this as part of his state of the nation address to Parliament, said a total of 19 Health Centres, 12 District hospitals, 15 Polyclinics and 1,300 CHPS compounds had been constructed.

He said government had also procured 161 ambulances that had been distributed to strategic areas to step up the evacuation of emergency cases to major health centres throughout the country.

The President said in the area of training, several nursing and midwifery training institutions had been established as well as a University dedicated to the training of auxiliary health care professionals.

On security, President Mahama said the Ghana Armed Forces had benefitted from the acquisition of new and modern equipment which had enabled them to carry out their mandate of ensuring ‘security by air, by land and by sea.’

He said the Ghana Police Service had taken delivery of high performance vehicles, communication gadgets and other essential equipment, apart from an ultra modern forensic laboratory, which had greatly improved their crime prevention and detection capabilities.

The President also commended the security services and other stakeholders for their effective maintenance of peace before, during and after the 2012 general election.
