An acute water shortage has hit the Keta Municipality and its environs in the past four months and this is effecting schools, hotels and health facilities.
Two Cuban doctors at the Keta Municipal Hospital, for example, are said to have threatened to leave out of frustration at the situation.
The hospital now depends on wells and bore-holes located on its premises to run the facility and to serve the doctors’ flats.
The problem was blamed on the failure of the Ghana Water Company (GWC) to upgrade its booster and pipes, connecting the area from the Agordome Supply Station.
Boarding students, for instance, are under daily pressure to supply their school kitchens with water from wells faraway with basic school pupils facing similar challenges at home.
In an interview with the GNA, Mr Serene Akpanya, Administrator of the Keta Hospital, confirmed the challenges but said the GWC was providing water by tankers for essential services.
He said the hospital had acquired borehole pumps and accessories to sink four boreholes at the cost of GH¢5,500.00 to augment existing ones.
Mr Francis Addo, GWC Director at Keta, said the problem had worsened this year.**
