The Northern regional capital Tamale and its environs have been hit by acute water shortage.
The situation coupled with the Harmattan weather has made life unbearable, some residents told Starr News.
Reports suggest the taps have not been flowing for over two weeks forcing people to resort to water sourced from the polluted Dams and Ponds for domestic purposes.
Management of the Ghana Water Company has so far kept mute on the situation, irking residents of the affected communities.
Spokesperson for the Water Company in the region, Nii Abbey on a local radio station Fiila FM, blamed the high rate of illegal connection in the communities for the water shortage.
Some of the areas hard hit by the water crisis include Sabonjida, Nyohani, Kukuo, Changli, Dohin-Naayili and Moshie Zongo, Asawaba and Kalpohin.
In the Dungu community for instance, residents have to dig up a hole in the dry Dam and wait for hours in order to scoop water.
The situation is gradually crippling commercial activities in the Tamale Metro Area.
Restaurant operators, Hotels, washing bays, laundry service providers are shutting down due to the situation.
Students who trek several miles to water Ponds and Dams also bemoaned the situation and called for an immediate solution.
