Wa West NPP selects parliamentary candidate

Wechiau (UW), Aug 14, GNA – Major (Rtd) Edward Yirimambo was on Saturday unanimously confirmed as the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the new Wa West constituency for the 2004 elections.

At the close of nominations he was the sole contestant and was unanimously confirmed by popular acclamation by the delegates. Soon after his confirmation, he expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and promised to unite the people for the development of the area.

He stated that education and health facilities, which had eluded the people for many years, would be his major priorities.

“Before I became a parliamentary candidate I helped my people with a dam and school blocks and I believe that when I become their Member of Parliament I will be in a better position to do more things,” he said.

Major Yirimambo said he would do his best to develop all the tourist potentials at Wechiau and its surrounding area to generate more revenue for development.

He advised members of the party against utterances, which could undermine peace, freedom and development.

Mr Ibrahim Tamah, Deputy Upper West Regional Secretary of the NPP, warned the electorates against selling their conscience for monetary gain.

“What we put into our mouths today will soon pass out but we should put up structures that will benefit generations to come,” he said. Alhaji Abudulai Issahaku, Regional Chairman, said the NPP was not the property of individuals and urged the members to accommodate each other.

Major Yirimambo later presented a Mitsubishi Puck-Up, 20 bicycles, six motorbikes, two mobile phones and T-shirts estimated at 210 million cedis to the constituency campaign team.
