VRA Trust Fund to provide sanitary facilities

Kpando/Todome (V/R), Aug 27, GNA – The Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement Trust Fund, has completed feasibility studies to upgrade water and sanitation facilities in all the 52 VRA Resettlement towns. Chief Musa B. Adam, the Board Chairman, announced this at Todome-Kpalime in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region, when he inaugurated a three-unit Junior Secondary School (JSS) and toilet facilities for the community school, funded by the VRA Trust Fund. He commissioned a kindergarten, a three-seat KVIP and two urinals at Kpando-Fesi in the Kpando District.

The Trust Fund was set up in 1996 to address the infrastructure, social and economic inadequacies of the resettlement towns.

Chief Adam re-assured the people that the Fund would ensure that all resettlement towns benefit from the electrification project being undertaken with assistance from the Chinese government.

Dr Kwame Ampofo, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, called for collaboration between the Managers of the Fund and the District Assembly for the rapid development of the area.

He said a South Dayi District Education Trust Fund, would soon be established with seed money of 20 million cedis and urged the VRA to support the scheme.

Mr Pius Adanuti, Kpando District Chief Executive, called on the VRA and Government to expedite action on the payment of compensation on lands acquired during the construction of the Akosombo hydro- electric dam. He appealed for the extension of electricity to the Fesi JSS to facilitate teaching and learning.

The Traditional authorities at Todome-Kpalime and Kpando-Fesi urged the fund to honour its pledge to provide basic amenities to the resettlement towns.
